Susan Carlson is a founding partner of this law firm. She has over 35 years of experience representing clients in federal and state courts and in various types of civil litigation, including civil rights and discrimination, constitutional and regulatory challenges, national security matters, and as an arbitrator in complex commercial disputes and a mediator in a variety of cases. Susan graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Law in 1976 and attended Notre Dame University School of Law Summer Program in Tokyo, Japan in 1974. Following law school, Susan moved to St. Louis where she was a Staff Law Clerk to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit from 1976-78. After two years as an Associate in a Washington, D.C. law firm, she served as a Trial Attorney with the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. from 1980-86. As a Justice Department Trial Attorney, Susan was based in Agana, Guam in 1980-81 for litigation in the Guam Land Claims cases. In 1986 she and her family moved back to St. Louis, where she was a full-time Assistant and Associate Visiting Professor at Washington University School of Law from 1987-94, teaching litigation and alternative dispute resolution in the clinical law program, and as a Lecturer at Sichuan University School of Law in the People’s Republic of China in 1991. She also had the honor of being elected to the Missouri House of Representatives, representing the residents of the 64th District which covered parts of St. Louis City and County around Forest Park, from 2011 to 2013. Along with other duties as a State Representative she was on the Judiciary Committee, was the ranking minority member on the Rules Committee and was on the Special Standing Committee on Judicial Reform.
